LAYOUTS
AMRA WA Inc. Has 6 operating layouts with 3 more under construction.

HALTWHISTLE - 00 Scale
Haltwhistle, the WA Branch; OO gauge layout is the clubs oldest, having been started in 1981. It is modelled on a UK Yorkshire Dales scene, the station buildings being representative of the period from the 1930s. It was constructed in a U-shape due to space restrictions, as the Clubrooms were at that time located at Meltham railway station on the Midland line. When we built our new Clubrooms in Moojebing Street, Bayswater, it gave us the space to change it to being in a straight line. The layout is a two track mainline with a through station, Cumwaite Junction, which is the start of a single-track branch line to Haltwhistle station. The station is set on a higher level and has a single platform with a run-a-round loop and goods yard. Over time we have added a ten-road fiddle yard, five up and five down, to the rear of the layout and put in a fully operational junction at Cumwaite Junction. This enables trains to connect to the branch line directly from the main line in both directions. This gives club members the chance to try out their shunting skills as you are able to pickup or drop off wagons from freight trains in both directions. Members can choose to run the clubs engines and rolling stock or bring along their own engines and rolling stock.
The layout supervisor is Tom Stokes who may be contacted for further information.

WESTERN RIDGE - N Scale
WesterN Ridge, (affectionately called the Ridge) is the AMRA WA N Scale layout under construction replacing the previous layout West-N-Trak. It is thought that, when complete, it will be the largest N Scale layout in WA, with almost four hundred feet of double track mainline. Built as a walk around layout with centre back scene, it utilizes cordless controllers so operators can follow their train. Local controllers are used for shunting yards and industries. An overhead system of hidden lighting behind a valance creates a theatrical effect. Although the layout is loosely based on North American scenery and practises members and visitors are encouraged to run their own trains of any prototype. Despite its size the layout is portable and will be exhibited at shows.
The layout supervisor is Steve Rayner Wood who may be contacted for further information.

EBFORD REGIS - 0 Scale
This layout, which is a two track oval 10.8m long by 4.2m wide, is based on an imaginary end-on junction between the L&SWR and the GWR somewhere in south west England, as it would look if being operated as a preservation railway in the early 1990's. There is a short branch at the west end of the station, and the former coal yard head-shunt has been converted into a short length of 7' GWR broad gauge track. The station has two platform tracks and two through tracks so that trains can be held at a platform and passed by others if so required. The layout has operating, illuminated, signals. Like some of the real preservation lines, we do have some continental locomotives and rolling stock, as well as a profusion of GWR, SR and others. The track is Peco 'streamline', the points are Markway 72inch radius, so if your rolling stock is to Gauge 0 Guild fine scale bring it along and join us.
The layout supervisor is Dennis Ling who may be contacted for further information.

SWAN VIEW - Sn3.5 Scale The Swan View layout is a nine metre long, double track layout with 16.5mm gauge track, which is built to represent the former WAGR station of Swan View situated in the Darling Ranges east of Perth on the former Eastern Railway to Kalgoorlie.
Originally privately owned, it was purchased by the Branch with financial help from the members of the S Scale Special Interest Group. Since its purchase the layout has been upgraded by the addition of scenic corner modules and a ten-track storage yard.
The layout has been constructed to a scale of 1:64 (S scale) so the 16.5mm track represents the 3'gauge of the WAGR. The buildings are scale models of the actual buildings that were once found on the Swan View station and its surrounds.
The track is by Peco, the scenery is plaster with a major feature being the many hand made trees. The only tunnel on the WAGR is also represented on the layout featuring some fine cast rockwork scenery.
The layout has proved to very popular with the Branch members, not only because of the attractive scenery, but also because the control system has been kept simple and the main lines of the layout are on the level. This allows members to run their trains with a minimum of fuss and great reliability.
Although designed as WAGR layout, all members are welcome to make use of the layout no matter what prototype they model.
The layout manager is Graham Watson. He may be contacted on 9250 1084.

NORTH AMERICAN H0 Scale
The clubs original North American Layout was demolished in late 2004 and is to being replaced with another layout. It will be a H0 scale with North American imagery.
A North American Special Interest Group has been regenerated. The new layout is going to use DC and DCC and will be fully and simply switchable between both systems. A system of standard control, connector and wiring procedures and details has been established to be compatible with switching the layout.
The layout will be about 8m x 2.5m, quick and easy to assemble/ dismantle and soon be at the Model Rail Show. The number of baseboard segments will be kept to a minimum for easier assembly with fewer sources of electrical trouble or derailments. Construction is rugged with minimal flexing of segments. Some new track and points and some recovered from the dismantled Allendale and Ovensville layout is being used.

At March 2005 an acceptable preliminary plan had been developed by the SIG and construction work has started. So pop in and see how the construction team is going.

The publicity officer is Alan Burrough who may be contacted for further information.
